Leonard M. Hickey is a member in the Grand Rapids, Michigan law firm of Hickey Combs PLC. He obtained his Bachelors and Law Degrees at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he was a member of The Marquette Law Review and Alpha Sigma Nu, the National Jesuit Honor Society.

Since 1980, Mr. Hickey has specialized in representing and counseling employers, insurers and claims administrators throughout the state in workers’ disability compensation matters. Mr. Hickey is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and its Workers’ Disability Compensation Law and Employment and Labor Law Sections. He is recent past chairperson of the Workers’ Disability Compensation Law Section. He is also a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, Michigan Defense Trial Counsel, Michigan Self-Insurers Association, Michigan Public Risk and Insurance Managers Association, and Greater Grand Rapids Association for Human Resource Management.  Mr. Hickey is a Life Member of The Justice Foundation of West Michigan, and a Fellow of The College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers. 

Mr. Hickey has achieved the highest attorney rating by his peers, the Martindale-Hubbell “A-V” Rating.  Mr. Hickey has also been selected for inclusion in the 25th anniversary edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the specialty of Workers’ Compensation Law and for membership in Strathmore’s Who’s Who.  He has been honored as a Super Lawyer in Michigan Workers’ Compensation since 2008.  He was recently selected by The New York Times as one of the Top Attorneys in Michigan.  U.S. News & World Report, in its “Best Law Firms” Rankings, has awarded Hickey Combs PLC a First-Tier Ranking in Workers’ Compensation Law.

Mr. Hickey is a frequent speaker and presenter on workers’ disability compensation issues.
